The storm has passed. The danger is over. But your yard looks like a war zone. Limbs everywhere. A tree across the lawn. Brush piled against the fence. You do not know where to start.
Start with us.
Storm damage cleanup is the full job that follows the emergency. Emergency service makes things SAFE — that is the fast response. Cleanup makes things NORMAL again. We cut up the fallen trees, chip the brush, haul the debris away, and rake your yard clean. One crew, one visit in most cases, and your property looks like the storm never came.
What Is Storm Damage Cleanup?
After a big storm, most of the damage is not dangerous — it is just a mess. A pine snapped halfway up and is lying across the back yard. Limbs are scattered from one end of the lot to the other. The wind stripped half the leaves off your oaks and left a carpet of branches. Nothing is on the house. Nobody is hurt. But you cannot mow, you cannot walk the dog, and your fence is buried under brush.
That is what storm damage cleanup is for.
Our crew comes out and clears all of it. We cut the fallen trees into pieces. We feed the brush through the chipper. We load the logs and haul everything away. Then we rake the yard clean and pick up the small stuff. When we leave, you can use your yard again.
Let us be clear about the difference, because these two pages get mixed up. Emergency tree service is the fast response that makes things safe — the tree off the house, the driveway cleared. Storm damage cleanup is the full cleanup job that follows. If a tree is on your home right now, you need our Emergency Tree Service page first. If the danger has passed and you are staring at a mess, you are in the right place.
Waldorf gets both kinds of storms. Winter nor'easters drop heavy wet snow on pines and snap them. Summer thunderstorms bring straight-line winds that peel limbs off oaks and maples. We have cleaned up after both, in every neighborhood in Charles County.
When You Need It
If the danger has passed but the mess has not, this is your service. Here is what that looks like.
- A nor'easter or summer storm dropped limbs all over your yard.
- A tree fell but missed your house — now it is just in the way.
- Broken branches hang in your trees, ready to fall on the lawn.
- Your fence or shed took a hit, and debris is piled up around it.
- The yard is too big a mess to handle yourself or with a borrowed chainsaw.
- Limbs are clogging your gutters, your walkway, or your driveway.
- A neighbor's tree fell onto your side of the fence and the mess is yours to clear.
One note: hanging broken limbs that dangle over people or cars can be an emergency, not just cleanup. If you are not sure which you need, call (240) 213-4913 and describe it. We will tell you straight.
How It Works
- Free on-site visit. We walk the whole property with you. We list every fallen tree, every pile of limbs, every branch stuck in a gutter. We check which trees can be saved with pruning and which ones are done. You point out anything you want kept — firewood, wood chips for the garden, a log for the kids to sit on.
- You get a written price. One price for the full cleanup. It covers cutting, chipping, hauling, and raking. If you want extras — stump grinding on a snapped tree, pruning the damaged survivors — we price those separately so you can choose.
- We cut and chip. The crew cuts the fallen trees into manageable pieces. Big limbs go through the chipper. Logs get stacked or loaded for hauling. We work from the biggest mess to the smallest, so the yard opens up fast. Damaged trees that can be saved get pruned back to clean wood — clean cuts heal better than torn ones.
- We haul it away. This is the part homeowners dread. We load it all — logs, chips you do not want, branches, the small stuff. Our trucks carry it off your property. You do not make a single trip to the dump.
- We rake and walk it with you. The crew rakes the work areas clean and picks up the small debris by hand. Then we walk the yard with you. If you see something we missed, we get it. You do not pay until you are happy with how it looks.
Most cleanups finish in one day. Big jobs — three or more downed trees — can take two. We tell you the plan up front.
What Affects the Cost?
Four things drive the price of a storm cleanup.
How much fell. A few limbs cost far less than three downed oaks. The crew's time, the chipper hours, and the number of truckloads all scale with the volume of debris. After a light storm, it may be a half-day job. After a nor'easter, it can be much more.
The size of the pieces. Cutting up a 50-foot pine takes real time. Small branches are fast — feed them to the chipper and move on. Big trunks need sectioning, and big logs are heavy to load. The bigger the wood, the bigger the job.
Access to the mess. If our trucks and chipper can pull up next to the debris, we work fast. If the fallen trees are behind a fence, down a slope, or in a backyard with no gate access, every piece has to be carried out by hand. That adds hours.
Extras you add. Pruning damaged survivors, grinding stumps from snapped trees, saving chips for mulch — each is a separate line on the written price. You choose what you want.
We never quote cleanup over the phone — there is too much to see. Call (240) 213-4913 and we will come out, walk the yard, and give you a free on-site written estimate.
Why Not Do It Yourself?
Storm cleanup looks like honest yard work. And some of it is — picking up small branches is fine. But the big stuff is where homeowners get hurt.
Chainsaws are the obvious risk. Storm wood is under tension. A limb pinned under a trunk can snap back when you cut it. Every year people get hurt cutting storm debris with saws they use twice a year. A pro crew reads the tension before every cut.
Then there is the hauling. A storm can drop a ton of wood — literally. Loading, hauling, and dumping it takes a truck, a trailer, and a full day. Most homeowners do not have the truck, and renting one for a weekend often costs more than they expect once fuel and dump fees add up.
There is also the tree-health angle. Damaged trees that could be saved need clean pruning cuts, not torn breaks. Bad cuts invite disease. A crew that knows trees will save the ones worth saving and cut clean.
Small stuff? Grab a rake and go. Anything with a chainsaw or a truckload behind it? Call us.
Common Storm Cleanup Mistakes
Waiting weeks to call. The mistake: you plan to get to it "this weekend," and three weekends pass. Why it costs you: piles of wet limbs kill the grass underneath, torn branches on standing trees invite disease, and your neighbors start to notice. What to do instead: call early. After a big storm we book up fast, and the list is first-come, first-served.
Burning the brush yourself. The mistake: a big backyard bonfire seems like free disposal. Why it costs you: Charles County has burn rules, smoke bothers neighbors, and a brush fire can get away from you fast. What to do instead: let us chip it. Chips make great mulch, and the rest we haul away — no smoke, no permit questions.
Hiring the cheapest guy with a chainsaw. The mistake: after every storm, door-knockers offer cleanup for cash. Why it costs you: no insurance means their damage is your bill, and many vanish before the hauling is done — leaving you with piles. What to do instead: hire an established local company with a written price. Ask for proof of insurance before they start, and make sure hauling is in the price — not just cutting.
Skipping the damaged survivors. The mistake: you clear the fallen wood and ignore the standing tree with half its limbs torn off. Why it costs you: torn limbs rot, disease moves in, and a weakened tree can drop a limb on someone next storm. What to do instead: have us look at the survivors during the cleanup visit. A clean pruning now can save the tree.
